YMMV / Star Trek: Coda

  • Ass Pull: For Oblivion's Gate, David Mack's conceded they had to use timey-wimey bullshit and technobabble to explain how the characters could even re-visit the alternate 2373 from First Contact, given it was erased after history was restored at the end of the film.
  • Broken Base: Though the trilogy has earned a positive reception, the decision to definitely and permanently end the Pocket Novelverse with a Cessation of Existence for the entire timeline has seen a few fans object to the cataclysmic approach to wrapping up the series. Noting the books' effort to avert the abrupt Left Hanging status of the Star Wars Legends Expanded Universe's nullification, some opine that the cataclysmic approach leaves a bitter aftertaste for the entire Litverse for those revisiting the prior entities, knowing the ultimate fates awaiting everyone in them, which to some is less desirable than simply no resolution. Leaving no room for follow-ups can be said to also leaves the series worse off than the peer of Star Wars Legends, which has had sporadic additions and continuations released since the Expanded Universe reboot.
  • Unexpected Character: Given the 24th Century-centric focus of the trilogy, and even despite being a Crisis Crossover, Spock's entry into the plot during The Ashes of Tomorrow is one that readers and characters alike genuinely didn't see coming. Picard even lampshades it in-story.
