Memetic Mutation: "Livin' like Larry" has become one of the most iconic lines of the show from Season 4 onwards, usually used as a justification to go crazy, as well as an unofficial catchphrase to refer to the character.
They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: Sandy, the only other adrenaline junkie next to Larry, is nowhere to be seen in this episode. The writers could have shown an interesting side to her in how she’d react to Patrick's (and eventually SpongeBob's) newfound obsession. Would she have been in favor of it, or would even she believe that SpongeBob's going too far?

Harsher in Hindsight: The entire episode (but especially the scene with the mother and her child) can be harder to watch after the infamous Tanning Mom, whose addiction to tanning and her allowing her young daughter to use a tanning bed regularly led to a vocal public dispute over the dangers of excessive tanning.
Squick: Everyone getting tanned to the point where they look like rubber.
