  • It would take someone very familiar with British Geography to tell you what real-life locations line up with the Collective; for what it's worth, Vermilion is implied to be Hereford, East Carmine is Rhayader, Rusty Hill is Builth Wells and High Saffron is Aberystwyth.
  • Likewise, you'd have to know British postcodes by heart to get that the Russets once hailed from Reading (where Fforde's own Nursery Crime series takes place) and that the Oxbloods were once from London.

  • Literally IN the road. Human-shaped dark shadows under the blue surface of the perpetulite. A section of it was described as being starved, as well; it powers itself by absorbing organic material, and it had not fed in so long that it would near instantly consume anything organic that touched it.
