• Captain Obvious Reveal: Any reasonably savvy viewer can figure out that January is the traitor. Offering an apple to Sam, after the apparent Big Bad escaped via eating an apple, was blatant foreshadowing, and her complaints about her brother gave her solid motive. Throw in her Power Parasite ability, which typically falls under Bad Powers, Bad People, and she was a walking villain flag.
• Moral Event Horizon: Edmond crossed this when he murdered his own brother. He further went over it when he deliberately tries to commit genocide against all people with royal blood.
• The Woobie: Sam in unmitigated spades. She lost her father in a plane accident, is separated from her friend by her mother, is told she has superpowers and must train with complete strangers, and is explicitly threatened with having her memory wiped. The secrecy almost destroys her friendship with Mike, and then she learns the truth about her father died, which causes her to learn that her uncle is a fratricidal madman.
