YMMV / Satoko and Nada

Go To

  • Harsher in Hindsight: In a comic written in 2018, Satoko notes that face masks are pretty hard to find in the US compared to Japan, use of which became an inflammatory subject in the States during the COVID-19 Pandemic.
  • Ho Yay: There are many moments between the titular friends that can be read as suggesting a romantic connection.
    • When Satoko asks Nada if she’s interested in any guys, Nada replies that she’d much rather spend her time with Satoko, to which Satoko responds she feels the same way.
    • When Nada sees Satoko reading about Saudi culture, Satoko clarifies that while she wants to know more about Nada's culture, she really wants to know more about Nada herself. Nada begins blushing and remarks that Satoko's answer has made her heart race.
    • When Nada is weighing over if she’s ready for marriage, she thanks Satoko for showing Nada that she can live happily with another person (apart from her immediate family.)
    • When Satoko asks about getting a headscarf because she finds Nada’s comfy to snuggle in, Nada gets offended at the implication that with her own scarf Satoko wouldn’t snuggle with Nada anymore, punctuated with a heartbreak symbol.
    • When Nada’s fiancé Abdullah enters the picture, Satoko begins getting increasingly protective of Nada. One night she cries over having to part from her, while the two share a bed.
    • During her first meeting with Abdullah, Nada starts talking fondly about her time living with Satoko, and almost says she wishes these days could last forever before catching herself.
    • On another night where they share a bed, Nada says that if Satoko couldn't return to Japan then Nada would open her home to her, and that if Nada could she would follow Satoko anywhere across the world.
