• Ho Yay: Tokai. For example, when Kyoko's Dragon Ozaki needles him about "taking it up the ass" from his one-time protege Hojo (and he has many, many other lines like this throughout the series):
  Tokai: (smirking) "You should let him do you, too! It's not just your ass! It rattles your whole insides! Wham! Wham!" (to Kyoko) "You want Hojo to give it to you so bad you can't stand it, can you!"
• Tear Jerker Asami's implied death from illness at the very end. Asami and Hojo watch over a sunset back at Cambodia and he declines to play rock-paper-scissors with Hojo, instead asking if it's ok to rest over his shoulder. Hojo lets him, shedding tears over how even though they have achieved their dream, he's still as helpless as he once was to save most of the boys who escaped from the Khmer Rouge labor camps with them.
