YMMV / Pooh's Heffalump Movie

Go To

  • Awesome Music:
    • "Shoulder to Shoulder", natch, due its' heartwarming message juxtaposed with Roo and Lumpy's cute bond.
    • "The Horribly Hazardous Heffalumps!" due to its' catchy tune and inspiration from the well-known "Heffalumps and Woozles".
    • "Little Mister Roo" is a sweet lullaby Kanga sings about her son growing up but hoping he gets to be a child for just a little bit longer.
  • Base-Breaking Character: Lumpy. Many felt the inclusion of a heavily billed new character was a forced marketing ploy to add new interest to the franchise, while others found Lumpy endearing enough in his own right. Some thought Lumpy was harmless but could have been used better.
  • Broken Base: The idea of Heffalumps being real and friendly rather than imaginary and scary. Some thought Heffalumps no longer being imaginary removed the fun of the Hundred Acre Wood being scared of monsters that didn't actually exist, while others were excited to see one of these animals actually interact with the other characters and thought the idea played well with the film's themes of prejudice.
  • Contested Sequel: Much like the rest of Pooh's follow-on films, most consider it a fun enough standalone film, with many finding it a nice limelight film for Roo. However, its more kiddish storytelling and attempts to push a new character leave it more divisive when compared to the reception of other installments released around the same time.
  • Designated Monkey: Poor Rabbit and his garden as usual. When Roo and Lumpy roam about the others' houses, they cause havoc. However, while the mess they do to Pooh's is accidental and Roo actually warns Lumpy to be considerate, they both quite gladly destroy Rabbit's vegetables for a laugh. Also when Roo tries to stop the others antagonising Lumpy, he relates his personality to Pooh, Tigger and Piglet's....but leaves out Rabbit.
  • Fanfic Fuel: We just met two friendly Heffalumps, but what about friendly Woozles?
  • Older Than They Think:
    • Heffalumps were previously real in New Adventures in the form of Heff Heffalump and the Heffalump family from "There's No Camp Like Home". Furthermore, as in this film, they were friendly creatures in the latter. And Junior Heffalump was a friendly youngster heffalump.
    • Another New Adventures episode "The Great Honey Pot Robbery" also toyed with the premise of Fantastic Racism towards Heffalumps and Woozles, though in that case it was a Woozle that accepted the olive branch, this time from Pooh; and he was the only one who did, with Heff and Stan, his two cohorts, refusing to do the same and remaining antagonists.
  • Protagonist Title Fallacy: Contrary to the movie's title, Pooh has very little to do in this feature and is more or less a supporting role; it's Roo who's the main star and has the most important role in the film.
  • Sweet Dreams Fuel: While Winnie the Pooh is no stranger to this, since this is taken in to Roo's POV, there are a lot more scenes where you just can't help but want to cuddle him and be his friend.
  • Tear Jerker:
    • The scene where Roo and Lumpy give up hope on finding Lumpy's mother.
    • Lumpy getting captured by the others and losing his trust in Roo, crying that Roo promised that they wouldn’t be mean or scary.
