YMMV / Pompeii: The Last Day

Go To

  • Nightmare Fuel: The scenes where Herculaneum and Pompeii were destroyed by pyroclastic flows, especially when you consider that the majority of the characters are based on some of the bodies they found in the ruins.
  • Retroactive Recognition: Polybius is played by Jim Carter, who would go on to play Carson on Downton Abbey.
  • Squick: The use of urine in cleaning clothes, as we see in Stephanus' fullery. Truth in Television, unfortunately.
  • Spiritual Successor: Krakatoa (2005) and Krakatoa: The Last Days (2006), two docudramas fictionalizing the 1883 eruption; Atlantis: End of a World, Birth of a Legend (2011), which fictionalizes the Minoan Eruption from around 1600 BC; even Hiroshima (2005) counts, as it is another BBC documentary dramatizing the sudden destruction of a city in a fiery rage, this time man-made.
  • Tear Jerker: The scenes that both display both the massacres at Herculaneum and Pompeii and their bodies afterward.
