• Broken Base: The conclusion of the arc, featuring a "Bitch Lit" author Penny and butch Gay Conservative Aggie as lovers, inspired more controversy than most other moments within the comic. Reader opinion was divided over whether the scene was meant as the future for the title characters, or merely one of countless possible futures; whether, if that future were the "true" one, Aggie's political shift would be a good, bad or neutral development; and of course whether Penny and Aggie should end up as a couple or not. The first of those questions was finally settled with the end of August.
• Shrug of God: Campbell has kept mum on the question of whether Penny's possible future selves are found only in her imagination, are metaphors for different aspects of her character, or exist within respective Alternate Timelines.
