• Unexpected Character: Nobody expected the appearance of pony Ragamuffin, as both the show and comic have avoided the long theorized Alternate Selves of Equestria Girls characters up until now, nor did anyone expect confirmation of such to be done in such a casual manner.
• Viewer Gender Confusion: Before Dust Devil was confirmed to be non-binary with they/them pronouns in a tweet, many fans assumed they were male due to their angular muzzle, and because they weren't referred to any third-person pronouns at all in the arc's first two issues.
