  • Aluminum Christmas Trees: The Interstate Commerce Commission was a real government organization at the time the original book was written, and possibly when the movie was filmed. However, it had been declining in importance since the end of WWII and was disbanded in 1996.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: Charles Rocket's character threatens to shoot himself in the opening scene. Several years later, he committed suicide.note
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic: NSA Jordan's motives in discrediting the President are wanting the authorization to use force to free American prisoners/hostages from North Koreanote  and prove to the world that the United States is not some passivist nation that can be cowed by the threat of war. To that end, he's willing to murder an innocent young woman, resort to framing one of his own SSAs and a homicide detective as traitors for simply trying to do their jobs, and later attempts to outright assasinate the President himself.
