• Cliché Storm: The messages received from other random pods are very horror film cliched.
• Contested Sequel: Many fans of the original weren't too fond of Super Motherload. Citing that the drilling lacks weight, the story is unnecessary and cliche and that the game lacks the lonely and tense atmosphere of the original thanks to its much brighter and cartoony art style.
• I Am Not Shazam: "Motherload" refers to rich ore, not the mining pod.
• It Was His Sled: As in the original game, your (initial) mission control has a hidden agenda, and you have a boss fight with him at the planet's core. However...
