YMMV / Meat Puppets

Go To

  • Archive Panic: Likely to happen when one first discovers them, as they have a pretty large body of work and continue to record new music. Meat Puppets II, Up On The Sun, or Too High To Die are good places to start.
  • Covered Up:
    • All of the songs from Meat Puppets II that Nirvana covered for their MTV Unplugged album to some extent, but especially "Lake Of Fire": Though it was never an official single, Nirvana's version received a lot of airplay on rock radio stations at the time.
    • The Meat Puppets themselves did this with "Hair" by Monitor, in a strange sort of way: Strictly speaking the Meat Puppets version is the original recording - Monitor wrote "Hair" during the sessions for their self-titled (and only) album, but felt that their own performance wasn't fast or intense enough, so they taught Meat Puppets the song and had them record it in their stead. Thus, the Meat Puppets version was initially included on Monitor's album, but became more widely heard when it was included as a bonus track to Meat Puppets.
    • With Curt Kirkwood's solo album being out of print and some songs (Snow, Movin' On, etc.) being worked into Meat Puppets' sets, the songs off of Snow are quickly becoming this.
  • Vindicated by History: Golden Lies was critically panned upon release and generally ignored by fans. However, in the years since, it's gained an appreciated following, some even considering it one of their best albums.
