YMMV / Match Point

  • Alternate Character Interpretation: While many audiences can sympathize with Chloe who is seemingly a nice girl, Roger Ebert interpreted her as a passive aggressive Rich Bitch as she basically bought Chris with her father.
  • Moral Event Horizon: Chris, about the point he kills Nola, his own unborn child and Nola's elderly neighbour - the latter being described as "collateral damage", whom he killed first (while faking a robbery of her apartment) in order to make Nola's death look like an afterthought. Admittedly he spent most of the movie lying, cheating on his wife and ruthlessly scaling the social ladder, but until this point he'd come across more as an (admittedly unlikeable) Anti-Hero than an out-and-out villain.
  • Too Bleak, Stopped Caring: The movie is about a nihilistic sociopath who marries into wealth, gets an innocent woman pregnant, murders her, gets away with it, and is pretty damn smug about it, thinking it proves his worldview correct. It can be a bit hard to take, even for longtime fans of Woody Allen.
