  • Was Nola really pregnant? The biggest clue to think she wasn't, is that when the police interrogate Chris, they 1) don't mention she was pregnant, while they certainly have performed an autopsy on her, thus if she was pregnant the police would know 2) show Nola's diary—but that apparently doesn't mention a pregnancy at all (while her relationship with Chris is described in detail). It seems she either wasn't pregnant and was lying about that to Chris out of desparation to get him to leave his wife, or she was pregnant but miscarried, maybe even without her knowing that herself (but again, that latter scenario is weak because she doesn't mention a pregnancy in her diary).
Also, in the "dream sequence" when the "ghost" of Nola speaks to Chris to accuse him of taking her life, even the neighbour who Chris murdered too (but who doesn't have anything to do with the rest of the story) shows up to accuse Chris as well—but an unborn child isn't mentioned at all.
    • The Dream Sequence has Chris specifically mention "To not to have been born is the greatest gift of all" so it is acknowledged. As for whether Nola is pregnant, I think on a Doylist level, she is. Chris certainly believed she was and he acted on it, and the film is about Chris killing her. Nola faking her pregnancy would only be an issue if the movie was about her.
