- Awesome Art: Paul Gulacy's artwork in his run on Shang-Chi with Doug Moench is considered to be revolutionary for its day, highlighted by the fight between Shang-Chi and The Cat. The panels bring a photorealistic quality with frequent use of angles and varying panel sizes to showcase movement and action.
- Harsher in Hindsight: The "Warriors of the Golden Dawn" arc includes Fu Manchu planting a nuclear bomb in the World Trade Center and Shang-Chi kicking a foe off the roof of one tower, then risking his life by jumping off and grasping a dangling ladder... after 9/11 it reads very differently.
- Hilarious in Hindsight: Shang-Chi and Leiko listen to a lot of Fleetwood Mac, which became this after Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 made prominent use of "The Chain", which appears in scenes such as this panel◊ of Master of Kung-Fu.
- Narm: The desperate race against time to stop Ghost-Maker assassinating the Queen descends into this. First there are jetpacks and helicopters. Then a jeep and motorbike chase. Followed by a battle atop a moving train. And then, finally… a bicycle race, with both of them pedalling furiously. By the time they fight to the death on a cliff top, it's lost a lot of the chase's original intensity.
