YMMV / Marîd Audran

  • Fair for Its Day: The book series treats transgender characters as perfectly normal and has numerous characters that were assigned different sexes at birth. Some details are wrong about how they present themselves but, otherwise, are just part of the cast.
  • Values Dissonance:
    • The books have a somewhat hostile view toward Muslims despite taking place in the Middle East with a large number of them portrayed as sexist, hypocritical, or Hiding Behind Religion.
    • The treatment of trans characters can sometimes border on fetishistic, especially since so many of them work in the Budayeen's sex industry.
  • Values Resonance:
    • Body modification is something that is entirely normalized in the Budayeen.
    • Trans characters are a major part of the cast and suffer very little Trans Tribulations.
