- Anvilicious: The comic is extremely overt about the importance of accepting LGBTQ+ people for who they are and the struggles they face when forced to conform to heteronormativity. Every chapter of the comic includes some issue about Max's gender dysphoria or the difficulties that come with being queer. By the end of the comic, all four of the story's main characters are revealed to be gay and have suffered derision for their gender identity, sexual orientation, or not conforming to traditional gender roles.
- Moral Event Horizon: Pyper's father shaming his own daughter in front of everyone in the church, and Pyper's old "friends" outing her against her will. Even the demon that attacks directly afterwards calls them all out on this.
