YMMV / Made in Abyss: Binary Star Falling Into Darkness

Go To

  • Memetic Badass: The Player Character, who may suffer The Many Deaths of You and has a real Early Game Hell compared to Riko at least being prepared and having some skills on her belt, but also effectively becomes a White Whistle so fast through sheer capability and achievement on their own merits, and can singlehandedly fight and overcome Ozen enough for her to quit the encounter, at the same time the early series exploits of Riko and Reg are occurring with them struggling to survive. Many fans have actually wanted to see a follow-up solely to see just how far the protagonist goes as a result.
  • Slow-Paced Beginning: Most players agree that the mandatory Hello Abyss mode is a slog to get through due to its linearity, and the game gets much better once you unlock Deep in Abyss mode. Fan outcry was enough that the game ended up being patched to allow users to access Deep in Abyss immediately, with only an easily-dismissed warning text balloon standing between them and the meat of the game. This, interestingly enough, coincided with an overall increase in positive Steam reviews.
  • What Do You Mean, It's Not for Kids?: Much like the anime and manga, this game looks like a cutesy adventure tailor made for a young audience at first blush. Don't be fooled, however: the game is rated ESRB M/PEGI 18/CERO:Z for a damn good reason. Outside of the series' heavier story beats, expect to see characters die often, and in gruesome and painful ways!
