- Audience-Alienating Premise: The film sounds like a pseudo-sweet story about having faith, which gives the impression of having a predictable plot and of being full of Glurge.
- Critical Dissonance: Critics were harsher about this film than the mainstream audience. In metacritic, the score by critics is 30.
- Questionable Casting: Putting Mr. Fanservice Eduardo Verástegui as a priest... really? He may lack most of his hair and his trademark Perma-Stubble, but it is hard to take him seriously.
- So Okay, It's Average: The production values were awesome, everyone did a good job at acting and the film does acknowledge the other side of the topic. However, this film is not quite a trascendental, healing movie.
- They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: For some critics, the film should have killed off Pepper's father to show Pepper that not all his desires may come true.
