  • The fact Ranma is cured of his curse in the first chapter as a side-effect of dying, with Ranma then asking for immunity to curses as his divine boon out of paranoid fear of ever being cursed in a similar manner again, is rather controversial. Many readers have protested that "Ranma simply isn't Ranma" without a curse, whilst others have defended that Ranma is more than just his Sex Shifter Involuntary Shapeshifting gimmick.
  • The fact that Ranma died because of Akane, even if it was a complete accident on her part, is also controversial, if not to the same extent as Ranma being cured.
