• Designated Hero: Julie. Yes, she may be Maggie's mother, but she still chose to abandon her daughter by leaving her in the care of her former lover Valentin, who despite his coward personality, proves to be competent enough as a parent for her and even threw himself off a hotel presidential suite to save her from drowning in a pool while she was an infant, and also supports her economically thanks to his lucrative job as a stuntman. However, when Julie does come back to check on Maggie, she has the gall to file for custody against Valentin, bringing up his lack of English skills and his stuntman job (which she cites as "dangerous") as solid evidence that he is unfit to take care of Maggie properly, passing off her abandonment of Maggie as "a mistake", as well as demonizing Valentin mercilessly. She eventually drops her smear campaing against Valentin, choosing to spend time with him and Maggie, after learning the truth about Valentin supposedly having little time left to live from his friend Frank.
• Hype Aversion: Perhaps the reason many people didn't like the movie was because it was heavily promoted and praised in its day.
