• Unintentionally Sympathetic: After Curtis has Malik and his friend arrested for stealing his motorcycle he becomes hated by the rest of the family and is kicked out of the house by Ella. This is due to the family seeing Curtis buying a motorcycle as a ridiculous mid-life crisis impulse purchase and him having Malik arrested is treated as a horrible and petty betrayal of family. However, Curtis is completely in the right as Malik stole and wrecked his property and he was fully in his moral and legal rights to file charges against his great nephew. It's later made clear that Curtis had no intentions of getting the boys in any real trouble, he only wanted to scare them straight but his lesson in tough love backfires when they are sentenced to jail time. Thankfully, Curtis has the charges dropped to reverse this.
