YMMV / Grimoire: Heralds of the Winged Exemplar

  • Awesome Art: The games spritework is overall top notch, purposely mimicking the styles of old computer games but with much greater detail.
  • It's Hard, So It Sucks!: Easily the biggest complaint regarding the game. It takes a heavy amount of inspiration from Wizardry, and that includes bringing in its notorious difficulty. Encounter rates are high, most enemies hit hard and/or spam status effects, and character creation is incredibly complicated which was an especially big problem when the game lacked a manual. It is a game made purely for CRPG veterans seeking something similar to older games, but even those kinds of players have called out the game for being too hard
  • Overshadowed by Controversy: The games incredibly long and difficult development time (twenty whole years) is easily the most well known thing about the game, to such a degree many familiar with the game still assume it is vaporware even after it has been out for a few years. Not helping matters were the various controversies that happened after it was finally released, including backdraft from the Obvious Beta state the game started in, the game completely lacking a manual for two whole years, and the creator himself being someone who could not take any criticism toward his game. All of this makes the troubled development even harder to ignore.
