• Hilarious in Hindsight: The presence of Helen Hunt in a movie inspired by Cyndi Lauper's Breakthrough Hit - Lauper would play a Drop-In Character on Mad About You; both she and Hunt won Emmys for the their work on said series.
• Values Dissonance:
  • During a party, Drew gropes a girl. The whole thing is Played for Laughs (he tricks her into letting him touch her breasts) with Drew as a harmless Loveable Sex Maniac. Modern audiences are more likely to view it as sexual assault and it probably would not have been included in a teen romantic comedy nowadays (or if it was, it would be performed by a much less sympathetic character.)
  • The dance contest falls under this. Janey is fifteen years old, and there's no way that a modern dance competition would allow her to enter without a signed parental permission form; quite likely she would also be required to have one parent or guardian with her for the actual show. (Granted, that actually ended up happening, but her father was initially there to prevent her from participating, not to support her.)
