YMMV / Gamera vs. Jiger

Go To

  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: At one point for some inexplicable reason we're shown footage of immense parasitic worms being removed from a swelling in an elephant's trunk.
  • Base-Breaking Character: Jiger is seen as a bit more divisive in the fandom. Some fans dislike for her being considered one of the weaker monsters in the series due to her underdeveloped backstory, less memorable design and being considered a rehash of Baurgon, on the other hand some fans like her due to her numerous strange abilities. She seems to be one of the few Gamera foes to be weaker than him and only gives him a hard time due to her unique abilities like flying, gravity manipulation, needle shots, x-ray beam and of course the parasite injector.
  • Nausea Fuel: At one point for some inexplicable reason we're shown footage of immense parasitic worms being removed from a swelling in an elephant's trunk. It is filmed using a prop and real roundworms from a pig.
  • Older than You Think: Think the film is homaging or ripping off Alien with the parasitic monster subplot? You'd be wrong, this movie came out nine years before Ridley Scott's!
  • The Scrappy: Susan, Tom's little sister, although not quite to the extent of Tomoko from Gamera vs. Guiron or Helen from Gamera vs. Zigra, thankfully.
  • Spiritual Successor:
    • In Pacific Rim, a team enters the body of a downed kaiju and are attacked by a baby monster inside.
    • Alien could count as well, in the way Jiger injects a parasitic egg into her victim's chest. This predates the Xenomorphs by 9 years!
  • Surprisingly Improved Sequel: Not by much per se, but coming off the sheer goofiness and nonsensical nature of Gamera vs. Guiron, many appreciate the noticeable darker tone and liked that the main characters are more rounded and useful than before.
