- Ass Pull: Karen has never been mentioned or hinted at before her introduction in this episode. It's never been indicated that Peter had siblings note and his childhood flashbacks have always shown him to be an only child (including episodes released after this one), with the sole exception being a cutaway gag in "Brothers & Sisters" where he mentions having a broster.
- Catharsis Factor: Watching Peter be abused by his sister in the same way he's abused Meg in the past seasons is pretty satisfying to watch. Though even then, the "Toxic Shock" scene is just uncomfortable.
- Fridge Brilliance: With Karen being so mean to him, it's possible that the reason why we've never heard of Karen or seen her is because Peter wanted to forget she existed. May also double as Fridge Horror; her abuse must have been pretty bad for Peter to forget about his sibling's entire existence.
- Unintentionally Unsympathetic: This episode attempts to explain Peter's abuse of Meg by revealing that he was also abused by Karen when growing up. This fell flat for most viewers due to the fact that a) Karen has never been mentioned before this point, and b) her treatment of Peter still doesn't justify how he treats his own children. The fact that Peter immediately goes back to mistreating Meg after this episode puts him and this plotline in an even worse light for many.
