  • Aluminium Christmas Trees:
    • As weird as a pro-communist and pro-USSR monarchy may seem, this is precisely what happened with Norodom Sihanouk in real life. Sihanouk claimed to be a socialist and held openly pro-USSR views, even abdicating the throne at one point in order to be "closer to the people", albeit he remained in power as a civilian leader and a de facto dictator. He also joined forces with communist guerrillas after being deposed. The only difference is that with the split in pro-Vietnamese (pro-USSR by proxy) and pro-Chinese wings of the Khmer Rouge happened before the Khmer Rouge came into power, leading Sihanouk to abandon the Khmer Rouge in favour of the pro-Vietnamese FUNSK.
    • Despite sounding like a fictional pseudonym, Pol Pot really did use many pseudonyms and code names, including one similar to Brother One, "First Brother", and Pol Pot, his real name being Saloth Sar. He also really did believe in most of the stuff he believes in the mod, and gave up any veneer of being Communist when the Vietnamese invaded.
    • Konstantin Petrov and his strange Dead Water ideology/cult really existed, and were just as weird in real life. The only major changes are that they can gain far more influence in the mod, and they appear earlier than in real life, forming in the 80's/90's rather than in 2000.
    • Despite looking like a knock-off of the Nazi flag you'd see in an alternate history work, the flag used by the Afrikaner Resistance Movement in the mod is the real life party's actual flag.
  • Heartwarming Moments: In one of the few bright spots of hope in the mod, it's possible for Australia to come out of the economic recession stronger than ever and become a regional power within the pacific. The accompanying Superevent is a hopeful rendition of "You're The Voice" by John Farnham, signifying the economic and political adversities it managed to overcome and the grand "Pax Australiaca" born from it.
  • Nightmare Fuel: The "Proto-Cyberpunk" setting of Eternal Golden Dawn is far from a good place to live in, and beneath the seemingly mundane if far more technologically advanced Cold War conflict the mod focuses in, horrific and at times outright insane ideologies and governments exist abound.
    • Of note is the so-called "The Dust", an Eldritch Abomination that appears within the Middle East if the United States decides to nuke Baghdad to end the Gulf War. It's completely unstopable and tears everything within its path through its winds, both structures and lifeforms. To make matters worse, the fact the superevent is called the "The Dust Awakens" implies it wasn't created by the nuking, but always existed and was sealed up and/or sleeping within the desert... until the bombing woke it up.
    • It's possible for the United States to fall under control of Gene Savoy and the Church of The Living Heaven under mysterious circunstances. While its policies haven't been shown yet, the fact they're classified as Annihilationism should be a tell that they aren't good news. The superevent for their takeover is a very cryptic and creepy title saying "In Heaven, Everything is Fine" while a distorted rendition of Amazing Grace plays in the background.
    • In much the same vein, it's also possible for Aum Shinrikyo to seize power in Japan. Bear in mind that this is the cult infamously responsible for the Tokyo subway sarin attack, and that the game classifies them as another Annihilationist movement. Their rule bodes ill for Japan, and the superevent accompanying their rise to power is certainly as eerie as one would expect.
    • After the death of Deng Xiaoping, the Chinese Communist Party's transhumanist wing can install an experimental Artificial Intelligence called The Long March to govern the country. Things go south very quickly, with a glitch causing The Long March to detonate China's nuclear weapons stockpiles, leading the nation to collapse. But considering that The Long March's ideology is listed as Annihilationism - and is stated to be sentient - one has to wonder whether or not the detonations were actually deliberate.
