Examples specific to Elf Bowling the Movie: The Great North Pole Elf Strike belong here.

  • Adaptation Displacement:
    • For a given definition of the word "adaptation," more people know about the Game Boy Advance and Nintendo DS re-releases of the first two games than the PC originals.
    • To an even greater extent, more people known about the movie than the games, mainly due to being a frequent source of mockery for online movie reviewers. Weirdly, most reviewers do mention the games when reviewing the film.
  • Bile Fascination: Most of the people who have played 1 & 2 probably have only played it for this reason.
  • Obscure Popularity: The original game was played over 7 million times, making it a hit (especially by 1990s freeware standards), but it doesn't get talked about much aside from the film.
  • Porting Disaster: Even putting aside the fact that one could get the original versions for free, the GBA and DS versions suffered from having fewer animations and sounds than the originals, which is inexcusable when you consider that the games were pretty minimalist in the first place.
  • So Bad, It's Good: Part of the appeal of the game, along with its complete irreverence.
