YMMV / Eighth Doctor Adventures: War of the Daleks

  • Author's Saving Throw: The retconning of Skaro's destruction was meant to be this. To quote John Peel:
Another reason for the story was to bring back Skaro. I feel that its destruction in "Remembrance [of the Daleks]" - was a bad move, as did Terry Nation. When I sought his permission for War, he asked me to try and rectify the destruction, which I think I've done very sneakily.
  • Armed with Canon: The only problem with Peel's view, as expressed in the above quote, is that Nation got script approval on all Dalek stories, meaning he had signed off on the destruction of Skaro in 1988. One suspects it was just Peel, a well-known fanboy of Nation and the Sixties Dalek stories (he'd written the novelisations of "The Chase", "The Daleks' Master Plan", "Power..." and "Evil of the Daleks"), who wanted to undo the destruction of Skaro and pave the way for more Dalek stories. Notably, Nation had died months before the book was even released, meaning he couldn't confirm or deny Peel's claims.
