YMMV / Cloé's Requiem

Go To

  • Complete Monster: Alain Ardennes is Cloé's abusive father and the man who cursed her. A talented musician who drove people to insanity with his unique compositions, Alain took pleasure in hurting his wife and molesting his daughter, taking pictures of the latter in distress and keeping them in an album. After Alain was killed by Cloé in self-defense when he showed signs of wanting to murder her, his spirit cursed Cloé and the mansion, turning his own daughter into a monster. When Michel D'Alembert visits the mansion to save Cloé, the spirit of Alain decides to make Michel his next prey, tormenting him with illusions to deplete his sanity so he can possess Michel and kill Cloé.
  • Jerkass Woobie: In Con Amore. Alain learning that his daughter, Cloé, has a terminal illness has got to hurt. That in no way absolves him of raping her and driving her to insanity in order to make her immortal through The Power of Hate.
  • Tear Jerker: The True ending- Michel, refusing to kill Cloé, uses the protective charm she gave him to drive out the curse. He then takes her out of the mansion and to a nearby cliff, where she gives some heartfelt last words and dies in his arms. He plays a requiem for her after laying her to rest, then promises to return to his family, even though he knows that, since he accidentally killed the maid, he likely can never return to a normal life.
  • The Woobie:
    • Michel D'Alembert is a boy born to a poor family. His greedy father forces him to perform on concerts and only sees him as a money maker. His little brother, sick of being neglected in favor of Michel, spats out at him that he should die. The poor boy snaps hard enough that he murders his father and two maids and is prosecuted. And then he finds out that he is being cursed by one of the maids in revenge. In the Good Ending, he decides to confront his actions and returns to his house, where is implied that things won't be good for him.
    • Cloé Ardennes is abused by her father and neglected by her mother. One day, she realizes that her father wants to kill her, so she kills him in self-defense. His vengeful spirit curses the house and she develops a Literal Split Personality. The fake/good Chloe summons Michel to the house, so he would save her. And the only way to save her is to kill the real/bad Chloe.
    • Pierre D'Alembert is the younger and unappreciated brother of Michel. Neglected by his father in favor of his more talented, and lazy big brother, Pierre finds himself frustrated by both his father and brother. One day, Pierre snaps and tells Michel that he should go die, driving him away from the house, an act he expresses sincere remorse for in the true ending.
