YMMV / Chasing Life

  • Awesome Music: The acapella cover of "Bad Day", used in 'Death Becomes Her'. Witness the awesome.
  • Harsher in Hindsight:
    • In the first episode, April plays up her fainting spell in front of Richie Miranda by joking that she's dying and the only cure is scoring an interview with him. Fifteen minutes later in the episode... she finds out that she has cancer and might actually end up dying.
    • Leo jokingly tells April in season one that he will not father her children, and then in season two he ends up dying right after they'd started planning their future together... which he hoped would include kids.
  • LGBT Fanbase: Brenna's storyline has attracted a number of lesbians to the show.
  • Narm: The acting by the characters in April's nightmares/hallucinations is often very stilted, resulting in a lot of this.
  • Portmanteau Couple Name: Lapril (Leo/April) and Grenna (Greer/Brenna).
  • Romantic Plot Tumor: Most of Brenna's first season arc revolves entirely around her love life. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing... except it has absolutely nothing to do with the rest of the show, and really adds very little to the plot.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: Leo's philanthropic work for his father's company in season two. Considering how much he did for his fellow cancer friends in season one and how important it was to him that he leave behind a legacy when he died, this could have been an excellent story arc for him if it had been introduced earlier in the season, and would have also given the character a valid reason to be off-screen so much (since Scott Michael Foster was pulling double duty shooting Chasing Life and Blood and Oil at the same time). Instead, it was introduced in his next-to-last episode and received a bare minimum of development in the following episode before the writers Dropped a Bridge on Him. It's like the writers realized they needed to do something important with his character before killing him, and so they cobbled something together at the last minute.
