  • Nightmare Fuel: Dan buys a belt and knife, as a gift for Harvey, that had belonged to a sailor from another ship, who had died and been buried at sea. Shortly afterwards, the boys are out fishing and haul up the man's body (which Kipling happily tells us no longer has a face). Harvey throws the knife into the water and Dan cuts the line. Upon hearing the story when they returned to the ship, its cook performs a special ritual to ensure that the body stays submerged.
