• Fridge Brilliance: In this strip◊, the homophobe who insult Buster, Hector, and Gordon laugh is represented with "Haw Haw!" as opposed to the more common "Ha Ha Ha!" An infamous homophobe was well-known for representing laughter the same way.
• Jerkass Woobie: Bernard doesn't seem like too bad of a guy and it doesn't help that his job seemed to have put his marriage in jeopardy.
• LGBT Fanbase: Naturally, it's a webcomic focused on queer culture in a positive light, which was uncommon at the time.
