  • Annoying Video Game Helper: If you're not using your sub-weapon or clearing waves perfectly, the game will point it out before every stage until you start doing it. The former message can be helpful as there's no reason to not use it when you're killing enemies; the latter can get tedious if you're using the Pacifist handicap, as you can't perfect waves when it's on since it requires killing all enemies. This happens even when you've progressed far into the game and the messages can't be turned off without skipping all dialogue.
  • Game-Breaker:
    • NoLegs has the Shooting Star sub-weapon. It fires continuously in place, lasts much longer than any non-toggleable weapon, and you can have several of them active at once (unlike the toggled weapons, where you can only have one at a time). By picking up a diamond or heart to recharge your weapon at the right time, you can end up firing nine streams of bullets at once counting your primary weapon. You can either scatter the Shooting Stars around to hit everything onscreen or concentrate them in one spot to deal obscene damage - bosses can lose half their health within a second to the latter.
    • Matt has the homing swords. It's a continuous stream of homing blades that allow free hits even when the foes are on the other side of the screen, is fast, doesn't target bombs and barriers unless the enemies are fully covered and there is slim to none danger of the attack running out of energy if used strategically.
  • Easy Levels, Hard Bosses: You can obliterate the enemy waves easily if you are skilled enough, as good positioning will kill a few enemies before they fire. With the bosses, this isn't the case. They have multiple lifebars, patterns that nearly fill the screen and, especially in bonus waves, will increase the graze counter of a skilled player very fast. Less skilled players will face death instead.
  • Visual Effects of Awesome: The bullet patterns are colorful and breathtaking, even if they can kill you. Especially those of the bosses, but even the enemies have cool patterns. The Invincibility cheat exists so you can "enjoy the show without any stress".
