YMMV / Buffy The Vampire Slayer S 6 E 8 Tabula Rasa

Go To

  • Awesome Music: Michelle Branch's fantastic performance of "Goodbye To You" that plays over the episode's ending. Most fans wish there had been an official release of that version too.
  • Genius Bonus: "Tabula Rasa" means Blank Slate, and was used by John Locke to refer to people's minds before they learn anything or develop an identity
  • Hilarious in Hindsight:
    • Dawn joking that the name on her necklace might be "Umad" instead of "Dawn" now inevitably recalls the "U mad?" meme.
    • The next year, Michelle Branch would guest star on the other supernatural show about empowered women, performing the same song in the local night club.
  • Narm:
    • Not everyone really appreciated the literal loan shark.
    • The extremely effective tense scene where the spell is broken, and Tara is looking daggers at Willow, Dawn also realising what must have happened is ruined by an unnecessary comic bit where Xander laughs at a funny memory.
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic: Giles big time! While he had to be written out, thanks to Anthony Head wanting to spend more time with his family in England, his decision to simply up and leave because Buffy was relying on him too much reads extremely hollow. He had just found out that she was ripped out of heaven, and is a 21-year-old girl with a teenage sister to provide for in addition to the whole protecting the town from the forces of evil schtick. Rather than getting the Watchers' Council to give Buffy a salary or trying to teach her the best way to be a parent to Dawn, he decides it's best to let her fend for herself.
