- Garth Brooks' version of "Santa Looked a Lot Like Daddy" seems to have eclipsed Owens' original.
- "Crying Time" became a big pop hit for Ray Charles.
- "Act Naturally" might be at least as well-known, if not more so, for its 1965 cover by The Beatles as for Buck's version.
- Did it to himself in 1988 with "Streets of Bakersfield" (a duet with Dwight Yoakam), which he first recorded solo in 1972.
