- Designated Hero: Sheriff Ron Wilbois is supposed to be a small-town detective desperately trying to solve the brutal murders, but comes off as a jackass who emotionally neglects his daughter to the point of driving her to murder, is more concerned about his upcoming election than the string of homicides and is convinced that the killings are inspired by Dungeons & Dragons.
- Overshadowed by Controversy: Director Christopher Lewis was previously convicted for his involvement with a child pornography ring back in 1973,note causing the film to gain a somewhat infamous reputation in the horror community.
