  • Awesome Art: The movie has really fluid animation and beautiful scenery that rivals many Studio Ghibli movies. It was animated by Studio Mir, the team behind Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra.
  • Critical Dissonance: The movie received positive critical reviews in the West, but most Chinese viewers viewed it as merely okay, with the art and direction being praised but the story and characters shallow, cliche, and unlikable.
  • Designated Hero: Chun's devotion to keep Kun alive also indirectly caused destruction onto the Spirit World and her lack of remorse or gratitude after everything Qiu has done for her can make her come off as Unintentionally Unsympathetic.
  • Tear Jerker:
    • Qiu's death at the end of the movie.
    • Kun's death after he saves Chun. He barely knew her but didn't hesitate to save her life during a storm. The scene where Chun finds his dead body makes it even sadder especially when his sister is crying her eyes out calling for him to come back.
