- Cliché Storm: Your hero is The Chosen One with a dragon companion in a quest to save the world. There is a war between the good kingdom and the evil empire, and the latter is being manipulated by the Dragon with an Agenda.
- Demonic Spiders:
- A few hours into the game, you will encounter Elves, possibly the first normal enemy with an all-party attack (Wind), and it will be brutal.
- Mage-type enemies are very annoying to fight for the same reason.
- Goddamned Bats: Even with an encounter rate as notoriously high as this game, it is particularly ludicrous at Bandore Castle.
- Scrappy Mechanic: For the first 15% or so of the game you have to play with Samson and his unbreakable curse.
- That One Level: The Sand Caverns, and later Quamdar (the Very Definitely Final Dungeon, which requires you to do a lot of backtracking to reach Ramue and Shutat's inner sanctum).
