YMMV / Barbie Vlog

Go To

  • Adorkable:
    • Barbie, whose behavior in these vlogs is more in-line with a realistic teenage girl than her usual portrayals. This also extends to her shy interactions with her crush Ken.
    • Ken is also goofier than his usual portrayals, which endears him more to the viewers.
  • Alternative Character Interpretation: Due to Barbie's depression in "Feeling blue? You're not alone", Barbie could be interpreted as having clinical depression or another mental illness.
  • Les Yay: When asked who her celeb crushes are, both of Barbie’s answers are female. It may be a case of Ambiguously Bi since the wording of her answer implies she didn’t quite understand the question.
  • Older than You Think: Stacie's original personality shown throughout the vlogs is that of a Shrinking Violet, being referenced as being camera shy and an early episode revealing that she's too shy to raise her hand in class (which is later revealed to be a result of bullying) as opposed to her more well-known characterization of being a rather confident athlete. This is likely a reference to her original Shrinking Violet characterization before the 2010 revamp of the Barbie and her Sisters line.
  • Periphery Demographic: While the vlog series is still clearly aimed at young girls, for a while, the vlog series had garnered an audience of older fans due in part to Life in the Dreamhouse, but also because of people who were curious about the new format Barbie was being shown in.
  • Unnecessary Makeover:
    • Some longtime fans of the Vlog didn't care for the art style shifts the web series went through until it eventually settled on the Dreamhouse Adventures style.
    • Interestingly, one of the main criticisms of the newer art style is that it made Barbie and Ken, two characters who are implied to have feelings for each other, look more like brother and sister than they already did due to both having similar shades of blonde hair and blue eyes.
