  • Cold Ham: Graham Greene's Admiral Hadley is this, and his performance is pretty much the only entertaining part of the film.
  • Designated Hero: Gareth "Red" Waters. Aside from being a sleazy alcoholic prick, he's also directly responsible for the many, many deaths in the first monster fight; he blocks Tracy from taking out the monster with her harpoon when she had the chance, apparently because he wanted the kill instead, and because of that the monster successfully reaches the coast and the ensuing battle wipes out a good part of the city. (With No Endor Holocaust being completely averted.) He does at least clean up his mistakes by defeating the giant monsters, but it's hard to give him much credit for that when he keeps making those same mistakes over and over, regularly putting lives at risk for his own ego.
  • Fan Nickname: Kaiju fans like to call the monster of this movie "Jimbo".
  • Narm:
    • During the first monster's attack on the beach, we see an infantry unit (all four of them) take shots at it from ground level, followed by a shot of some dead victims on the sand... except that the monster hasn't actually stepped out of the water by this point, which instead gives the impression that the soldiers are such bad shots that they completely missed the monster and inadvertently gunned down the people trying to escape.
    • When Rushing rescues a girl from a burning bar, she initially refuses to leave the room she's in and has to be gently coerced into agreeing to go with Rushing. Presumably she was supposed to be too scared of the raging inferno to try to get to safety, but there actually aren't any flames whatsoever in the room, just a couple of smoke clouds superimposed in post-production, making it instead look like she has some inexplicable death wish.
  • Special Effect Failure:
    • Most of the explosions and smoke effects are below the quality of what you'd see in the average YouTube video, and are clearly just stock effects that the post-production team hastily slapped onto the footage.
    • The monsters and robot suits could be worse given the film's budget, but that's really not saying much.
    • At one point we see an exterior shot of a bar exploding spectacularly, with Rushing apparently still inside it. This is then followed by Rushing nonchalantly walking out of a clearly undamaged building with no smoke or flames anywhere to be seen.
