YMMV / American Horror Story: NYC

  • Awesome Music: The finale features a long, bleak montage of the AIDS crisis going into full swing, with "Radioactivity" by Kraftwerk playing in the background to give the montage an appropriately grim air.
  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: The tarot card reading, flipping all Death cards in a deck that should only have one, feels out of place in this more grounded season. It's barely referenced again, and serves only as heavy-handed foreshadowing.
  • Captain Obvious Reveal: The reveal that Big Daddy is an Antropomorphic Personification of the looming AIDS crisis had been guessed by fans as early as episode 1.
  • Too Bleak, Stopped Caring: It's an entire season centered around the beginning of the AIDS epidemic and the homophobia that allowed it to spread unchecked. Nearly every significant character ends up dead by the end of the season, and only a handful of them are even particularly likable.
  • Unexpected Character: "Bad Fortune" features a cameo appearance by Shachath the Angel of Death, who hasn't appeared on the show since American Horror Story: Asylum.
  • The Un Twist: The mysterious virus which first appears to be a Fantasy Counterpart of AIDS is in fact AIDS itself.
