YMMV / Air (2023)

Go To

  • And You Thought It Would Fail: A movie about the development of the Air Jordans that focuses not on Michael Jordan himself, but on the marketing team that came up with the sneakers and signed him to the endorsement deal? That sounded like a terrible idea for a movie, even with the talent behind it, with many critics and film journalists mocking its very existence as a symbol of everything wrong with modern capitalism when they first heard about it. Instead, it got such good reviews and test screenings that Prime Video, which originally intended for it to premiere on streaming, gave it a theatrical release, where it made back the $40-50 million spent on marketing it despite opening against the box-office steamroller that was The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
  • Crosses the Line Twice: David Falk's rant to Sonny after finding out that he visited the Jordan household is so enraged that it loops right back around to being funny.
  • One-Scene Wonder: Marlon Wayans sadly only has one scene in the movie but he absolutely nails it and his scene is widely considered one of the best parts of the movie.
