YMMV / Absurd (1981)

• The Scrappy: Katya's brother Willy is such a grating presence that some viewers would rather see him burned in the oven than Emily.
• Special Effects Failure: Emily getting stabbed in the throat with the scissors looks incredibly fake.
• Spiritual Successor: To The Anthropophagus Beast. Both films star George Eastman as a homicidal man who gets disembowelled at some point and is associated with a Greek island.
• Trapped by Mountain Lions: The Super Bowl party serves little purpose to the story except as a way to allow Mikos to conveniently step in and murder virtually everyone in the house.
• Visual Effects of Awesome: The aforementioned throat-stabbing aside, the makeup and gore effects are quite impressive for what must have been a fairly low-budget film, and stand out as some of the most gruesome committed to videotape. Possibly averted with the circular saw murder, though, as the director reportedly used an actual cadaver for the close-up shots, meaning that some of the gore may have been real.
