What Could Have Been / Infinity Train: Blossoming Trail

Go To

As you can tell, there were a lot of plans scrapped in Infinity Train: Blossoming Trail.

  • The author initially planned on having Chloe meet Simon, but scrapped the idea after finishing Infinity Train Book 3 and seeing Simon's fate. However, as of Act 2, she has planned that the Red Lotus Trio will encounter Grace and Simon in the Fog Car.
  • The scene where Chloe's classmates were chewed out in Chapter 6 was originally going to be done by Ash, but scrapped as he was even less familiar with them than Goh. Ash gets to chew them out seven chapters later.
  • The author's notes for Chapter 7 had Chloe originally going into something called The Self-Portrait Car where she would have a portrait of an ideal version of Goh who was her best friend, but later learned that having him so clingy was suffocating. She would've eventually meet someone who was being berated and harassed with verbal abuse, before revealing this was Amelia being berated by a fictional Alrick for everything she did while on the train under the guidance to have her life with him back. She would've been Chloe's mirror as the cynical older woman who didn't care for anything except her past and not realizing how much it hurt others. Again, however, the events of Book 3 altered these plans, with Lexi becoming the third member.
  • In Chapter 8, the Sorbet Shark puppies were going to be seals; however, the author swapped it for sharks since they're more menacing.
  • From the same chapter, Lexi's question of "...was any of that sarcastic?" was in response to a different line. When he asked if Chloe had any stories to attract customers, she'd refer to one about a boy so obsessed with ice cream that he sold his soul to a demonic ice cream truck.
  • The Plush Penguin Car in general was just going to simply be a car that the Red Lotus Trio passed through, but was later expanded upon to three parts when the author thought of Cara.
  • Author's notes at the end of Chapter 12 stated that the tale of 'Chloe Red Riding Hood' was originally going to be included, but got cut due to the chapter's length.
  • Another idea that was scrapped was when Goh would've been found on the train. Chloe would've escaped into something called "The Fog Car" — which is essentially Silent Hill 2 but on the Infinity Train — and Goh was teamed with Simon to rescue her with Goh and Simon having to face their inner demons, while Chloe — who had no sins at this point — was free to frolick across the Car and escape early. Goh would've fallen into despair at this point; no matter how hard he chased after Chloe, she would always be out of reach. However, as noted above, Simon's fate had that scrapped. The author later would bring The Fog Car as part of Arc 2/3 but with Hop instead of Goh.
  • The Chapter after The Crayon Car was supposed to be the Hidden Temple Car, but the author wanted more focus on the Pokémon world characters and moved it to Chapter 14 which would come after the Intermission because she didn't want the adventures of the Hidden Temple clash with the depressing farewell letters Chloe wrote. And then, that got pushed aside for a Prelude to open Act 2.
  • The Burial Ground of Blades Car was supposed to be an entire car with three chapters but the author had trouble implementing it into one chapter. Instead she just relegated it into a flashback.
  • Goh was initially supposed to unleash the Unown but was swapped with Parker instead. The author explains that Goh just wasn't the more creative type to fully use the Unown's power and the implications of just keeping a copy of Chloe by his side was a bit unsettling and that he would be near irredeemable at this point. Parker was shown to be more creative and much more dangerous due to his younger age and inability to let bygones be bygones.
  • The classmate with Asperger's was originally named Frank. Then the author remembered that there's already a Frank on the Infinity Train so he was changed to Franklin.
  • The Unown Arc was going to last even longer but was scrapped to about 3 chapters so that it didn't overstay its welcome. This also meant that Bede's role was also reduced as he was supposed to be fighting alongside Goh to stop the Unown.
  • The author was trying to implement a Coven Car throughout Arc 2. Unfortunately she decided to scrap it and make it a side-story since she didn't want Arc 2 to drag on forever else ruin the hype for The Fog Car.
  • The Curry Car was once a Cooking Academy Car whose theme when Chloe entered was curry. There, Romin would've already been working on her curry from her show and Chloe would've easily dismissed it...then be shocked when the curry got a pass. Chloe's lesson was to think about who she'd cook curry for and she would've made three curries: one for Atticus, one for Lexi and one for herself. The author decided to change it to the current version to coincide with Olmec's words from The Hidden Temple Car.
  • Per the Word of Saint Paul the scene with Mew, Chloe, and Delia was edited when one of the co-writers, crossoverpairinglover, wasn't looking. The change, editing the Pokemon food carrier from Delia to Ash, altered the scene from Delia bringing food to the Pokemon and noticing Chloe's Moment of Weakness to Delia actively looking for Chloe to screw up, making Delia come off as worse than originally intended.
    • The other co-writer claimed that this was mostly done for pacing reasons, and also noted that Delia making a conscious decision to walk away from someone she was trusted with watching just to do something anyone else in the house could’ve easily done would’ve made her look ‘’worse’’ than if she suffered a momentary lapse of judgement due to something unexpected happening, like Mew being revealed.
  • There were several discussions about having Ash's father appear in person as a clear contrast to Professor Cerise at some point, but it ultimately never happened.
