Tommy lives off insurance money following an accident that caused him brain damage when he was 19.

Tommy refers to a near-death experience at the beginning of the movie. He hardly remembers anything that happened to him since he was 19, thus thinking he is still 19 when he meets Greg. He often doesn't remember his lines and doesn't seem to realize how many takes were shot.
