    Pre-Release
The film will have a traditional villain for once
Possibilities are:
  • An intelligent species of the planet, who think the Clades are invasive intruders and want out with them.
    • The film won't treat them as in the wrong in it, and even show they were victims of previous, more imperialist humans.
  • Space Pirates who want to plunder it.
  • an absolutely gigantic monster, not to different from the Carnotaurus from Dinosaur, though a lot more alien looking. It notices that the human cast are an invasive species to what it views as its turf, and ruthlessly hunts them down to eat them one by one.
  • One of the crew members, best guess is Callisto Mal (Lucy Liu’s character) having her own agenda for leading the Clades on their voyage.
  • Jaeger Clade will go insane with loneliness and try to keep the Clades with him so they can all be a family again, no matter the cost. However, his actions will put the Clades in danger and he'll have a Heel Realization in time to save them.
  • Splat, the seemingly cute comic relief character, may end up being the real threat causing Avalonia’s problems and is planning to spread itself across the land for some villainous scheme.

Ultimately Jossed. The closest thing the film has to a villain is the Pando, which is actually a giant disease ravaging Avalonia's heart. That being said, Callisto Mal briefly becomes an antagonist when she continues to press on with the set mission instead of trying to save Avalonia, but the Clades very quickly help her see the light and she neither stays a villain for long nor does any particularly villainous things.

The film will deconstruct The Determinator
We see the Clades are very adamant to complete the mission, but we could see that this will backfire on them as it becomes clear this is unhealthy an obsession, and constantly pressing on will be revealed to be damaging the ecosystem, and the only way to stop it is to well, stop it.
  • Confirmed

The Third-act breakup will involve Searcher and Jaeger’s strained family relationship to reach it’s boiling point.
Jaeger will greatly endanger the entire family and Searcher would clearly feel that enough is enough, Searcher will then tell Jaeger “You’re the worst dad ever! I hate you!” To which Jeager leaves in sadness, once Ethan learns that his dad kicked out his grandpa, Ethan will also tell Searcher “You’re the worst dad ever! I hate you!” To which Searcher realizes that this vicious cycle will continue.
  • Or what if it turns out that it WASN’T Jaeger’s fault but Searcher ends up blaming him anyway because he jumped to conclusions.

Ethan will have his father, Searcher and his grandfather, Jaeger make amends with each other
He will try to have them make amends with each other, since he does have a good relationship with both of them.

Ethan will have his father, Searcher, and grandfather, Jaeger bond with each other
Since he does appear to have bond with both of them in the family.

Searcher will make amends with his father
Since it doesn't look like that Searcher had a good relationship with his father, it's likely that he'll make amends with his father over the middle of the film.
  • Confirmed by the end of the film.

    Post-Release

The Avalonians are descendants of spacefaring humans who crash landed on the creature
This would explain why they only exist in one place and don't know anything about the larger world beyond the mountains.

Humans and all terrestrial life were Probiotics
No other life on the aquaplanet is seen other than the Avalonia Turtle. All animal life originated from its gut, humans are Bifidobacteria, they evolved from the cells of the behemoth, and meant to be beneficial for the gargantuan mega organism, and exist in harmony with its immune system. At some point, the discontent ancestors of humans ventured outside, and forgot where they came from.

Considering the 'Don't Say Gay' bill was only eight months away, it is possible that the LGBT scenes were going to be cut or at least censored in certain countries.
Disney purposefully buried the film when they found out they could not cut the gay scenes
