WMG / Mario '85

Go To

MX and Red are the same entity.
  • Doubt it, from what we know, Red could only suck his victims' souls if they lose the game, but Lucas was sucked into the game with no playtime needed.

MX is related to Lord X.
They might have a similar or shared origin given what the two have in common.
  • Well, it's been confirmed that the two are good friends. Only friends and not relatives, so likely Jossed.

Alternatively MX is an alternate universe's version of Lord X.
  • He comes from a world where instead of liking Sonic, he gained a liking for Mario. That's why MX's body is inhumanly pale and has no eyes, because his Mario body is on a decaying state similar to Lord X's Sonic form.

It may also make sense, given how the whole concept of Mario' 85 was started by a joke about a supposed Mario PC Port made by JoeDoughBoy.

  • Possibly Jossed; MX and Lord X were confirmed by Taco Games to be good friends, implying the two are entirely different entities. Given their functional similarities, though, it's likely they're the same kind of demon.

MX is Mario after having gone through the revelation in I HATE YOU
Considering I HATE YOU.exe is basically the original Mario.exe, it makes sense to tie them together somehow.
  • Jossed. MX isn't Mario at all. He's an evil spirit who existed since the beginning of the universe and simply took on the form of Mario.

At some point, Lucas will get a power-up (likely a Starman) to fight back against MX
Although how well will it work is unknown.

Nekoamon from the april fools update is MX's pet

MX is a time traveler.
How the hell would he make a :D emoticon instead of an upright smile in his initial message to Lucas when the internet wasn’t widely accessible to the general public in the mid-80’s? Additionally, if he supposedly has taken on the real Mario’s personality traits when disguised, how would he know what Mario acts like? Mario wasn’t given much of a personality in the games until 64. And even if we take into account the TV Shows (which wouldn’t exist in 1985), I wouldn’t exactly describe Mario as gentlemanly there. Simple, he can time travel.
  • That does kind of make sense when you consider the fact that he has existed since the beginning of time. Maybe he's able to control time and space somehow. And when he reached Earth, it was at a time after Mario became mainstream and well established. He studied the plumber and his culture and after growing quite fond of it, decided to use this to his advantage. As for why he traveled back to 1985, well he took a big liking to Super Mario Bros. and wanted to make the game his new home and hunting grounds. But he figured children were more likely to play it back when the game first came out, so he time traveled back to that era just to most likely ensure his victim would be kid knowing that kids were easy prey.
  • Alternatively, the game doesn't take place in 1985 and Lucas is just a big fan of retro gaming.
    • Jossed, the first two words of the first sentence of opening paragraph of the description of the game states that the year is 1985. Thus, time travel theory is still viable.

Everytime Lucas resurrects, he loses his memories of how he died, merely having a feeling of deja vu that allows him to sorta know what is going to happen next
That's how he can somehow pass the levels without being a traumatized sobbing mess after the first death. At some point, MX may even try to weaponize this by showing Lucas the many ways he died previously, to break his mind.

The Toad MX killed at the end of World 1-1 is another human.

Lucas will grow up to be the narrator in Mario Is a Monster.
It wouldn’t be surprising if the experience with MX will turn him off from playing Mario games. Any future Mario games he plays, he’ll be reminded of MX. Perhaps by the time of Mario Is a Monster, he’s not all there mentally, engaging in Insane Troll Logic to try and paint Mario as evil.
