In Death: Unchained is a Virtual Reality Roguelike created by Superbright Games that was first created in 2020 as a reworked version of their earlier game In Death for the Oculus Quest. It was first released in June 2020.

This game provides examples of:

  • Achievement System: In this game, achievements unlock new items. They are a main part of the game and are required to progress. Some achievements unlock enemies which make the game harder though...
  • Anti-Hoarding: Inverted. The game actually encourages hoarding as it makes certain sections of the game survivable. Rushing through to the end is a common mistake.
  • Awesome, but Temporary: The various arrows you pick up all have a limited quantity. A quiver item is required to replenish them.
  • Dungeon Crawling: As a Roguelike, this game provides plenty of it. It even has three different dungeons with different enemies and layouts.
  • Hit Points: You have six. Losing one of them sucks and is hard to replenish.
  • Macrogame: See Achievement System.
  • Hub Level: The Sanctuary is the first thing you see when you start the game(unless you are on a save point) and it allows you to go to the dungeons, the Dlc, tutorial, and lets you see the leaderboard and achievements.
  • Suspend Save: The game only allows you to exit the game and save your progress at certain points on the map. This feature was designed for Unchained specifically as the Quest is wireless and is ablie to be played on the go more easily than PCVR.
  • Unbroken First-Person Perspective: Justifed as it is a VR game.
  • Yet Another Stupid Death: Teleporting into a room and immediately getting mobbed by tens of enemies.
